Dental implants have been successfully used over the past 25 years to replace missing teeth.
A dental implant is a titanium alloy post that is surgically placed in the jaw bone. Once the bone has healed around the implant, one or more of them can then be used to support single crowns, bridges or dentures.
The procedure is performed over a series of appointments and takes a number of months to complete. You may be referred to a specialist (an oral surgeon, or periodontist) for the placement of the implant in the bone.
